Snagged from cylune9 . List fifteen of your favorite characters from different fandoms, and ask people to spot patterns in your choices, if they're so inclined.

Do I even have 15 fandoms?  Are there any patterns at all?  Both seem unlikely.  But I'll try.

1. River Tam (Firefly)
2. Jean-Luc Picard (Star Trek)
3. Kara Thrace (Battlestar Galactica)
4. Harry Dresden (Dresden Files)
5. Dean Winchester (Supernatural)
6. Lance Sweets (Bones)
7. Gregory House (House)
8. Mitchell (Being Human)
9. Ryan and Esposito (Castle) (it's not really cheating; they're a unit)
10. Rose Tyler (Doctor Who)
11. Methos (Highlander)
12. Walter Bishop (Fringe)
13. Owen Harper (Torchwood)
14. Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
15. Cordelia (Angel)

Okay, 15!  But I'm not personally seeing any patterns.

I'm not liking that ski jumper guy and those mountains in the upper right corner.  The mountains look disturbingly like the snow piles outside my front door.

I do not live in snow country.  I live in "have a snowstorm once every seven years and then panic" country. Plus I'm from Northern California and never had any desire to leave there, especially not for this god-forsaken planet of the Ood.

And there's been no school for my kids for TWO FREAKING WEEKS.  I shall go insane.  Or have been.  Slowly and quietly.  I can't concentrate.  In fact, I'm so fuzzy and unfocused that it took me about three days to figure out that the word for what I have been unable to do is "concentrate."

Stuff that doesn"t require high levels of mental competenceCollapse )

Snagged from cylune9 and ageless_aislynn. I like this one.

Step 1: Put your music player on shuffle.
Step 2: Post the first line (or verse) from the first 30 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Strike through the songs when someone guesses both artist and track correctly.
Step 4: Looking the lyrics up on a search engine is CHEATING!
Step 5: If you like the game post your own

I've even let my paid account expire.  I've got ads and only six userpics (which LJ chose for me and I haven't bothered changing)!  What is the world coming to!

All is well though, and my novel is coming along.  I'm THIS CLOSE to finishing chapter 18 (out of approximately 30 (maybe)).  Since it's taken me a little more than a year to get this far and I turn 39 in a couple of weeks, I'm making it my goal to have this draft finished before I turn 40.   Eh-heh. Preferably I'll be long finished and well into editing this draft when I turn 40.

Which reminds me, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to ageless_aislynn , who being ageless is clearly not anywhere near 40.  I hope you're having a lovely day, Ais!

I need a good, trashy, easy-to-read airplane novel.   Something entertaining that will make the time go by fast and that will not require too much concentration as I will be interrupted every three minutes by my children.

Anybody read the Sookie Stackhouse books that "True Blood" is based on?  Would they fit the bill?

Any other suggestions?

BSG Last Day Meme

On this big finale day, let's celebrate BSG. If you see this on your f-list:
- quote the show
- and/or post a cap of one of your favorite scenes

: As far as I'm concerned, you can have any woman you want. But always remember, I have your heart.
: Yes, of course you do.
: I can always rip it out of your chest if I have to.

Totally unrelated cap:

This is the first time in five years that I haven't won NaNoWriMo by Thanksgiving.  And it's a late Thanksgiving yet!  Eeep!

But if my little calendar is correct, I have been consistently writing sufficient words on Thursdays and Fridays, though not on any other day of the week.  Interesting.  I'd better make sure that holds true this week.

Hope you all have a wonderful holiday, and -- if you are also doing NaNo and haven't won yet -- a verbose one. :)

(Especially ageless_aislynn, who is so TOTALLY going to win!!!!)

Did you see this?

LJ is going to give $1 to the NaNoWriMo Young Writers program for every participating LJer who wins NaNo.  As the mother of a YWP participant, I think this is AWESOME.  All you have to do to is join the comm and post your username in the Welcome thread.

You're going to win NaNo anyway, you might as well earn a little money for the kids. ;)

Edit:  Chris Baty's pep talk for LJers:

So here's a shout-out to all the LJers in the house: You are brave. You are capable. And this year, trying is not an option. Forget that stuff about having a low-pressure month exploring your imagination. This year, it's all about winning.

It is that joyous time of the year when

comes online!

Time to register for the literary madness, people! :) :) :)

You, me, 100,000 other people, 30 days, 50,000 words, 150 cups of coffee (or for me -- quite fattening hot chocolate), beginning November 1.  I'm fremount.  See you there! :)
